In applications where the color fidelity is important, e g retail and hospitality a CRI value above 80 is not good enough to describe the color rendering of a light source. A widely accepted additional metric is the color rendition of saturated red, the so called R9 value. Generally Metal Halides, CFL and  and also LED’s have not the best R9 values whereas Halogen lamps are very good in R9. Above are listed some LED fittings which show excellent CRI and R9 values. New metrics ( e. g CQS) to better describe the colour fidelity and colour gamut are currently under discussion.
